Toronto to celebrate achievements in human rights
The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable David C. Onley, will join His Worship, Mayor David Miller in celebrating access, equity and human rights in Toronto. Mayor David Miller will present the City of Toronto Access, Equity and Human Rights Awards in recognition of the United Nations’ Human Rights Day, December 10.
Awards will be presented to 10 recipients who have made a significant impact upon the lives of Torontonians by working toward the elimination of barriers to equality and discrimination.
Mayor Miller will be joined in the presentations by Councillors Janet Davis (Ward 31 Beaches-East York), Paula Fletcher (Ward 30 Toronto-Danforth), Pam McConnell (Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale), Kyle Rae (Ward 27 Toronto Centre-Rosedale) and Gord Perks (Ward 14 Parkdale-High Park) and Dionne Brand, Toronto’s Poet Laureate. The Human Rights Awards ceremony will be hosted by Merella Fernandez, co-anchor of CityNews at Five.
