Toronto Humane Society Board and Management Resumes Operations
The Toronto Humane Society Board of Directors and Management have resumed operations of the River Street location as ordered by the Ontario Superior Court. The following is a statement by Bob Hambley, President of the THS.
“This has been a difficult five weeks for all of us as we have been prevented from doing what we always strive to do, which is to treat sick, injured and abandoned animals and find them a good home or return them to their natural environment.
We are pleased the court has recognized that the unending occupation of the THS had to stop. We are very happy to be returning to the shelter with our staff to resume business operations. We will not deal with legal matters in the media but in the proper forum which is the court of law – where we will continue to present our case and look forward to more positive outcomes.
We are proud to work for a Humane Society that has been delivering care to animals since 1887 and is the largest companion hospital in Canada. The Society is normally open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and takes in and cares for approximately 11,000 animals each year. We look forward to updating everyone on when the THS will reopen to the public again and recommence adoptions.
As part of resuming operations, the THS board is in the process of recruiting a well-respected expert as the Society’s Interim Executive Director. The THS is also appointing an advisory committee of animal care experts to advise the board and the new executive director.”
