Mohammad Akmal, Malvinder Birdi and Two other people face 14 charges in fraud investigation

On Friday, September 18, 2009, 14 Division officers completed a three-month fraud investigation, dubbed “Project Mouse.”

It is alleged that:

- police were able to identify a group of drive test employees who were providing people with Ontario Driver’s Licences in false names,

- over 164 fictitious identities have been uncovered and these licences were used to gain credit and obtain other provincial and federal government identification,

- an additional 140 identities have been classified as suspicious and were used to circumvent government regulations such as the Family Responsibility Act and court orders pertaining to such crimes as Impaired Driving,

- each identity has an estimated street value of $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Deborah Chamberlain, 45, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Breach of trust by public officer,
2) Fraud Over,
3) Forgery,
4) Conspiracy to commit indictable offence.

She is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Thursday, October 29, 2009, room 111, at 3 p.m.

Joanne Mcglennon, 43, of Orangeville, has been charged with:
1) Breach of trust by public officer,
2) Fraud Over,
3) Forgery,
4) Conspiracy to commit indictable offence.

She is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Thursday, October 29, 2009, room 111, at 3 p.m.

Malvinder Birdi, 45, of Brampton, has been charged with:
1) Fraud Over,
2) Forgery,
3) Conspiracy to commit indictable offence.

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Friday, September 18, 2009, room 101, at 10 a.m.

Mohammad Akmal, 31, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Fraud Under,
2) Possession Property obtained by Crime.

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Friday, September 18, 2009, room 101, at 10 a.m.
